College of Information Technology
History
The Iloilo Doctors’ College was established on February 13, 1972 first as the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital School of Nursing and Midwifery. The Nursing and Midwifery courses gained government recognition in June 1975. At the start, IDC was operated as an educational arm of the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital that was established a year before. Realizing the importance of a more efficient, practical, and financially viable organization, the corporate stockholders decided to own and operate a new school. Thus, the Integrated Educational Corporation – Iloilo was formed and approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission on February 9, 1973.
Since then, Iloilo Doctors’ College has grown into different programs of studies with corresponding colleges and schools, to meet the increasing needs for qualified manpower.
In 2003, IDC established the College of Information Technology and was formally materialized after the Board Resolution of IECI dated February 3, 2003. It was then that the proposal for the Bachelor of Science in Information Management (BSIM) was approved. This is the birth of the College of Information Technology. Dr. Edmund O. Gomez was appointed as the first Dean of the college on February 14, 2003. The Temporary Government Recognition of the college was granted on March 6, 2003.
In the following year, the College had offered three more programs namely: (1) Bachelor of Science in Information Technology; (2) Bachelor of Science in Computer Science; and (3) Associate in Computer Technology.
Dr. Edmund O. Gomez is the dean of the college up to present. Through his able leadership, the college had its first batch of graduates in Associate in Information Technology (ACT) last March 2006 and on the same date, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region VI granted the Full Government Recognition for BSIT, BSIM, and BSCS.
