Iloilo Doctors' College launches IDC Community, a social network for students, alumni, faculties, employees and friends.
Beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2009, Iloilo Doctors' College alumni will have access to www.idc.edu.ph – it has a new social network feature exclusively for IDC students, alumni, faculties, employees and friends. Visitors to the site will be able to view a special video message as part of the site launch and the courses offered by Iloilo Doctors' College.
It is the dream of our school's President, Dr. Alejandro A. Rivera and the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Rolando R. Padilla and the members of the board to make Iloilo Doctors College an informative institution to the World Wide Web. This website aims to bring information to our alumni, students, personnel and faculty with the aide of the existing technology.
This site came into existence as a collection of webmaster tools and content management system developed by IDC Internet Library unit to contribute to Iloilo Doctors College information technology development program. The website development was started on February 2004, there were old versions which uses HTML and database management programs.
Users of www.idc.edu.ph are encouraged to manage their profiles with pictures and updates, create content through chat, blogs, discussions and videos, and explore other users’ pages to interact with classmates and acquaintances. Contests and promotions with prize giveaways will be conducted on an ongoing basis for active participants.
The website server is maintained and developed by CyberPopWeb based in Long Beach, California USA to provide a high speed access worldwide. Marco Somo, Web Developer for wwww.CyberPopWeb.com said, "It is our hope that www.idc.edu.ph will be a place where IDC alumni can not only catch up with friends and former classmates but also stay more connected to Iloilo Doctors' College. Alumni will see content, news and updates on this site that won't be available anywhere else."
"We wanted to provide a new tool for students and alumni to communicate and network in a way that is fresh and relevant," Somo said. "We're especially excited about the interactive nature of social media, meaning that students and alumni will be providing their own content by posting videos, photos, blogs and discussions."
"As opposed to sites like Facebook, Friendster or Myspace, www.idc.edu.ph is a secure, niche community that is designed exclusively for IDC student and alumni," said Sidney Souribio, IDC Technical Manager. "I think this is the direction of the future for school social networking."
Features of www.idc.edu.ph include:
* Social and professional networking opportunities with other alumni and students
* Special IDC and alumni news that you won’t find in Signatures or on the official IDC web site
* Job posting and career opportunities
* Alumni and school event announcements and photos
After creating a fair number of online tools, it was decided that we should make the site public, so that other IDCians around the world would have access to the our school publications, news, current services, related articles and programs of development. The www.idc.edu.ph is owned by Iloilo Doctors' College and maintained by Managment Information Service of Iloilo Doctors' College.
Now, the IDC website is much powerful than ever. It is designed to be dynamic and user-friendly. Among the features developed was email, chat, calendar, website, search tool partnering with Google. The new social networking tool was added to have users register to avail the special features, news update, and announcement. The future plans of the Web Development Team are to integrate the information system of the library, student affairs, and registrar’s and accounting offices to the website. Student and employees can borrow books, access their grades, print their transcripts, secured account payments and so much more.
Visit www.idc.edu.ph today! Since this is a private online community, you must be granted permission to join. All applicants who are AU alumni will be accepted to the site starting 8/8/08. E-mail Ben Davis with questions and suggestions.
